Because people don't know what real hip-hop is.

It's difficult to defend Eminem's new promotional single, "Taking My Ball", as real hip-hop. Yes, it has lyrical dexterity and complexity, but it's not true hip-hop, in my eyes.

Think of it this way...

If you had a friend who never listened to rap before and you want him to get into the genre, would you want him to listen to "Taking My Ball" as the first hip-hop song? :b:

Okay, but I probably wouldn't start with any Eminem song. I'd start with Illmatic, Stillmatic, 36 Chambers, Paid In Full, etc. Doesn't mean Eminem isn't real hip-hop. I was not a fan of Taking My Ball by any means, but it's most definitely a hip-hop song, while Lil Wayne is pretty much just R&B, imo.

People wouldn't care. He might get bashed in some blogs or be a trending topic on twitter. That's as "controversial" as things get these days.

And yeah, it wouldn't probably even sell a third of what it did in todays world.

I understand what you mean. Taking My Ball isn't real hip hop in the sense of... it just doesn't sound like true rap.

The accent... the ridiculous beat (not in a good way)... the constant ass references. It's more of a comedy song that's lyrically great.

yh definetly especially with the whole bootlegging situation but howcome lil wayne sold 1.2 million

except wayne didn't sell 1.2 m, it's 1.05 m :sweating: . That's still extraordinary number in first week though. But basically that album has no longevity, it sold 1.05 m first week but ends up doing only over 3m (ww). And please don't don't ever compare that to GOAT Diamond album MMLP, ever again, that album sold 20m for a reason :worship: Next time try to compare way's album to Encore, that's more reasonable (though Encore alone still sold more than Wayne's discography  )

Just imagine if wayne had the same hype and promotion in 2000 and he released tha carter 3 then, he would of sold 2 million first week and around 10 million right now without a doubt

Haha your so quick to bring up wayne's old sales b4 he had the buzz...? just play attention when rebirth and tha carter 4 come out and then pay attention when relapse 2 come out and check out the sales, it's a fact em cannot outsell wayne by any means in today rap world, wayne & young money has these rap, r&b, rock on lock :flower:

I get a better feeling (No Homo) wayne is probably the only rapper when i listen to i have to rewind the track like 3-5 times just to get a clear understanding of what creative stuff he is saying. what i also like is he doesn't give a fuck what people have to say about him he just does him he dones't try to blend in with the trends like every other rapper does. he made it to the top of hip hop by being him although it took him 12 years it was worth the wait to him and his fans because every single mixtape he has put out is practically classic material and all his albums has been decent or above. not dickriding just my honest opinion

The Eminem Show had the Eminem that made me listen over and over till I knew like every word, Wayne and his aura just can't make me feel like he's worth listening to

Try listening to other stuff besides his mainstream records, like hes is about to drop a official mixtape in the next week or 2 listen to it's called "No Ceilings" this mixtape is about to prove the haters wrong with the "wayne fell out", all his offical mixtapes has been named classics
