Why are "Emo" Em songs so celebrated?

You know whats funny, guys? 70% of the old school rappers didnt use multies at all, and yet that period is still considered rap's greatest time. But when Eminem doesnt use multies or flows faster in couple of his songs, you guys call it embarassing. Fuckin hypocrits.

The people who think that are idiots. The mid-90s through the early 2000's was clearly the best era in rap (Tupac, Nas, Jay-Z, Big L, Big Pun, Eminem.) Rap from the 80s is mostly boring as fuck.

it's so simple, the people who like these songs more, aren't such big hip hop heads. like myself, i prefer the songs i can relate to over songs about serial killing, with an accent. and no, it's not embarrassing playing songs like 'mockingbird' or 'when i'm gone' in public, if it embarrasses you, then you have insecurity issues, and care too much about what other people think.

umm..these songs mean more because umm let's see:
first, they never use a fuckin accent
two, we never have to hear him shitting and pissing on some girls chest
three, they actually mean something
four, you could be happy and listen to one of these songs and suddenly it made you sad (even though that might not be a good thing, it makes you have an emotional reaction to it, Remember the Titans is a sad movie but it's still a classic)
five, they are good songs..maybe not completely lyrical but honestly a typical listener couldn't give a shit about a multi syllable rhyme

yeah another good point, the only other song that could maybe be considered emo is beautiful cause of the verses, but the hook makes it not emo cause he is being real positive

Multis alone aren't everything (see Canibus) but they're a big part of the equation when it comes to evaluating a rapper. Anyone can write "meaningful" lines, but when someone can do that while being able to rhyme multiple syllables every bar you have something with a lot more depth than:

Life is so tough and so hard/
I just don't think I have the heart/
To get through, all this pain just hit me like a dart/
If I had one wish I wish this life didn't start/

multies ruin the effect of a meaningful song though.

You're right, all those multis really ruined Rock Bottom, Sing For The Moment, Lose Yourself, Till I Collapse, and Deja Vu.

I agree with Scott on this one. For example, I dont feel so much emotion in Deja Vu at all. He forced so many multies in it that it lost its true appeal. Thats why Beautiful is a lot better song, cuz it served its purpose.
